Rescue your files
When your operating system (Windows,Linux) is damaged you cannot recover your files that stored in the os installed partition manually. But with a live operating system that runs with no need of installation , you can recover your files without any major issues.

burn the downloaded operating system to a CD or copy it to a usb drive (if available with boot from usb) and insert CD or plug the pen drive in when switching on your computer. Wait few minutes and follow the options.
